Welcome to Applied English & English I... These are Mrs. Welter's English assignments. Every effort will be made to keep this page current; however, in the event that it is not, it remains the responsibility of each student to listen carefully in class, take notes, and be prepared on a daily basis.
Assignments for the week of Nov. 17-21
This Week: People of Christian Character Respect Creation
Applied English
Monday - Begin unit on The Miracle Worker by William Gibson. Watch the 20/20 documentary on deaf/blindness. Discussion to follow.
Tuesday - Journal #7 today. Reflect on the deaf/blind documentary we viewed yesterday. Recevie the biographies on Helen Keller and Annie Sullivan.
Wednesday - The Miracle Worker books will be distributed today. We will begin reading in class. Fill in Character sheets as we find out more on each character.
Thursday - Continued in-class reading.
Friday - Continued in-class reading. Finish Act I.
English I
Monday - Introduce The Pigman by Paul Zindel. Receive a biography on author, maps of the New York burroughs, and begin a cluster charter which discusses "old age" vs. "teenage."
Tuesday - Finish cluster chart and discuss. Begin reading chapter 1 in class. Finish 1 & 2 for homework. Receive Vocab packet. Guesses due tomorrow on #1-13, and definitions due on Thursday #1-13.
Wednesday - Quiz on Chapter 1 &2. Discuss and take notes on different narration styles. Reflect on the style used in The Pigman. Turn in reflections at the end of class. Check vocab guesses. Definitions due tomorrow. Read chapters 3 & 4 for tomorrow.
Thursday - Turn in Vocab words/definitions. Homework for tomorrow is the John/Lorraine Venn Diagram.
Friday - Return and Discuss corrected vocab. Vocab guesses and definitions due on Tuesday, Nov. 25 (#'s 14-23 only). In class, read and work on Chapters 1-5 study questions. There will be a quiz over chapters 1-5 on Monday, Nov. 24.

Monday - DLR #4, Journal #6, Concrete and Abstract Nouns Worksheet (due tomorrow if not finished in class.)
Tuesday - DLR #4, Correct the Nouns worksheet together. It will be collected for a grade. Begin reviewing for POS/Nouns test, which will be on Thursday.
Wednesday - DLR #4, Journal #7, Review for Unit Test (POS and Nouns) which will be tomorrow.
Thursday - DLR #4, Parts of Speech and Nouns Test today.
Friday - DLR #4, Journal #8, Go over corrected test. Finish Grammar Rock!
English I
Monday - Subject compliments introduced (P.A. & P.N.), Analyzing Sentences worksheet due tomorrow. (May use cheat sheets, may work with a friend.)
Tuesday - Correct the worksheet together in class. Discuss. Chapter Review worksheet to prepare for test on Thursday. (Parts of Speech/Verbs/Sentence Structure.)
Wednesday - Correct worksheet...It will be collected for a grade (tomorrow before test). Review for test.
Thursday - Test on POS/Verbs/Sentence Structure.
Friday - Return and Discuss corrected tests. Finish Grammar Rock!

Thursday - Continue POS worksheet in class (Conj. & Interjections). Review for POS quiz, which is tomorrow.
Friday - Parts of Speech quiz. Begin work on concrete and abstract nouns.

Tuesday - Begin POS review worksheet, Due on WED. Students may use "Cheat Sheet" for help.

Tuesday - Finish surveys. Talk about Study Environments. Take notes on "Preparing to Study"
Wednesday - Go over the definitions of the six (6) vocab words. Finish notes on "Preparing to Study."
Thursday - Vocab quiz today. Listening Skills and Notes.

Thursday - Introduce Journal Writing. Must work during class time. Do not take journals home unless you've spoken to Mrs. Welter or Miss Edmonds first.
Friday - Begin Sudy Skills unit. Take notes in class. No assignment.
