Practical English I/II Syllabus

Overall Purpose:

To help students develop skills needed for high school and post high school. The areas that will be covered include taking notes, following directions, using books, using the library, along with passing test. Reading comprehension, vocabulary development and beginning writing will also be worked on. The textbook used for this course will be “Practical English”. This will be the primary book used along with other materials that fit the topic areas.

Expectations:

1. Be on time to class and turn assignments in on time. (1 Pet. 4:7)
2. Be neat and honest with your work. (Col. 3:23)                                                        
3. Treat other students & teachers with respect.(Mat.7:12 & Rom.12:1-5)                  
4. Be responsible. (Mat. 25:21)                                                                                 
5. Follow policies and procedures. (1 Pet. 2:13)

Materials Required:

1. ** Assignment Notebook** Must be brought to each class
2. Pen or pencil every day                                                                                        
3. A notebook for journal writing that stays in room. (Supplied by Teacher)                       
4. A folder/binder with notebook/paper for daily notes and assignments.

Evaluation: Total Points Earned/ Total Points Available

1. Homework assignment 100 pts.–2 for every missing assignment or missing assignment notebook                                                                                                          
2. Weekly quizzes vocabulary and from the readings.5-25pts.                                       
3. Unit Tests 100 pts.                                                                                             
4. Demonstrations and projects 100-200 points.                                                           
5. Journal writing 5-10 pts. per assigned writing 6. Final Exam 200pts.

A+ NA           A =100-93       A- =92-90
B+ =89-87     B =86-83         B- =82-80
C+ =79-77     C =76-73         C- =72-70
D+ =69-67     D =66-63         D- =62-60
F =59 and Below

Retest Policy

Students may make corrections on test with the ability to earn half of points back or they may make corrections on the test and retake the test with 1 week of test being turned back to them.

Class Cheating Policy

Cheating will not be tolerated. Any student caught cheating will be sent to office and the School Academic Integrity Policy will be followed. This policy is posted in the classroom.

Absence Policy

If the student knows he will be absent due to fieldtrip or family matter, all efforts should be made to turn in work before absence or talk with teacher to come up with plan, especially if a prolonged absence. If absence is unplanned student will be given the amount of days missed to make-up work.
