- History of the World from Past to Present
- To gain a working understanding of World Affairs.
- To gain an appreciation for the wonders of this world created by God.
- To look at things from both sides (secular and religious)
Outcomes
- It is the hope of the Social Studies department that the students will gain a working knowledge of the History of the World.
Assessments
Each student will be assessed as to his or her skill and understanding of the ideas taught in class. These include…
- Tests (there will be one for each unit or chapter depending on the amount of material) Homework (worksheets, readings, current events, etc…)Projects (posters, papers, pamphlets, maps, etc…)
- Quizzes (can be retaken once per day for one week; due dates are given in class)
- Homework (worksheets, short answer questions, etc...)

Classroom Behavior
It is imperative that the students work together with the teacher in a manner that is acceptable to a proper learning environment. Unacceptable behavior will not be tolerated and will be dealt with immediately.
Required Materials
Each student is responsible for his or her materials that are needed. Not bringing the required materials is unacceptable and will only hurt the student’s grade in that they will not be able to participate.

Course Breakdown:
- Tests 30%
- Homework 25%
- Quizzes 25%
- Projects 15%
- Notebook (Binder) 5%
- Semester Grade = 85%
- Semester Exam = 15%
Assessment Rules
- All late homework will receive a grade of 50%.
- Unfinished homework, tests, etc… will receive a grade of 0% until it is made up.
- Homework is very important to the student so as to have a better understanding and knowledge of the material covered in class.
- It is the responsibility of the student to see the teacher about missing work.
- Cheating will not be tolerated and will receive a 0% without a chance to make it up.
- Extra credit work will be given occasionally (I highly recommend doing it)
- All late work will receive a 50%.
- Students will be allowed 2 days per day of absence to make up missing work (homework, tests, quizzes, etc...)
- Students must have their full name on all work or points will be deducted.
- Cheating will not be tolerated.
- Students may not retake tests, however, they will be allowed to make test corrections to earn points back that were lost (due dates will be given when the tests are returned to the students).
- Students may retake quizzes once per day for a week (due dates will be given in class.
Field Trip Policy:
Students are encouraged to be involved in their classes. Only students that are behind in their work will not be allowed to attend school field trips. Those students who do attend field trips must understand that they are still required to turn in work that is due that day and are still required to complete all homework assigned and take tests or quizzes that are planned for the next day.
Teacher Philosophy:
Learning is an ongoing process in our lives. It is important to continue to work on this process. However, it is also important to have fun while we learn. It is my goal to make history an exciting subject for you. This is only possible with the cooperation of the students.
Rules of the Room
- Respect everyone and everything (especially in the room.)
- Respect yourself.
- Allow others to speak without interruption. (Raise your hand)
- No passes are given except in case of emergency
- Tardi is defined as "not being in the room when the tone sounds."
- Be a productive member of the classroom. Respect the ideas/opinions of others in the classroom
- Raise your hand if you have something to say.

- Build a historical Monument (Group Project)
- Report on a Historical Individual (Must be an individual from either the Renaissance/Reformation time period or before; Chapter 1-17)
- 2nd Semester
- Post WWII Topic (Group Project)

Unit 2: Greeks, Romans, the Rise of Christianity and Early America’s
Unit 3: Regional Civilizations (The Rise of Europe, High Middle Ages, Byzantine Empires, Muslims, East Asia)
Unit 4: The Renaissance and Reformation, The Search for Spices, Age of Absolutism)
Unit 5: The Age of Enlightenment and Revolution
