Geography

Course Description :  This course is intended for freshman students who are weak in geographic skills or who wish to expand their knowledge of geographic concepts.  Such skills and concepts are essential to understanding Social Studies courses such as World Cultures and American History as well as in assessing global current events, which impact upon our lives.

EXPECTATIONS :

1. Strive to act in a Christ-like manner at all times

2. Respect everyone and everything in the classroom (teacher, students, environment)

3. If there is any type of problem, communicate with the teacher

4. Be prepared for class (Pencil/pen, paper/notebook, folder, planner, and textbook)

5. Focus on learning (other work not tolerated)

93-100 A 78-79 C+

90-92 A- 73-77 C

88-89 B+ 70-72 C-

83-87 B 60-69 D

80-82 B- 59- F

Tests/Quizzes 50%

Papers/Presentations 20%

Final Exam 15%

Assignments 10%

Planners 5%

CHEATING POLICY :

The Academic Integrity Policy will be enforced, unless teacher sees otherwise.

HALL PASS POLICY :

Passes will not be given out to use the bathroom or to get materials that you left in your locker. Passes will only be given out when it’s an emergency or if work during the period has been completed.

HOMEWORK:

Student are expected to be done with assignment when class begins. Most assignments are worth 10 points. Half-credit will given to all late assignments.

RETAKE :

Students can retake any test and the average grade of the 2 tests will be given. An F on a test will result in the student being required to retake it. There will be a deadline for when retakes can be done.

ACADEMIC REFERRALS :

Students will be sent to Guidance with an academic referral under these circumstances: habitually late with work, doesn’t bring required materials to class, late with a major paper.

ABSENCE POLICY :

If a student is absent, he/she is expected to talk to the teacher about what was missed. If an assignment is due when student is absent, he/she would turn it in the day returned. (some leeway will be given)

DEVOTION ASSIGNMENTS :

Students will be assigned devotion which will start our class. A Bible verse(s) will be read by the student (your choice). He/she will then tell the rest of the class how the verse(s) can be applied to our daily lives. Students must be ready when class begins. This will be counted as part of your HW/assignment grade.

CURRENT EVENTS :

Every Tuesday and Thursday, a couple of students will be assigned Current Events. Students will share with the rest of the class the events that they see as noteworthy. This will count as part of your HW/assignment grade. An 8-10 question quiz will be given every Friday based on the student’s current events. This will be a part of your quiz grade.
