    11. Equilibrium
    12. Acids and Bases
    13. Introduction to Organic Chemistry

Homework/Grading

The student will be evaluated based on performance on quizzes, laboratory reports, and the final exam.  Homework assignments taken from the book or from worksheets will be assigned and should be completed by the next day.  The homework will be corrected by the student or instructor.  The student must have all of the unit's homework completed before the quiz of that unit is taken by the class if the student wishes to be eligible to get a chance to take that quiz over.  If a student wishes to take a quiz over, the student must complete an additional assignment, go over that assignment with the instructor, and will receive the grade of the second quiz taken minus 5 percentage points.  Most likely, this grade will be higher than theone that the syudent received on the first quiz taken.  All "second chance" assignments and quizzes must be completed by the end of the six week grading period.  The number of homework assignments completed by the student will be communicated to the parent on the progress report.
Lab reports must also be completed by the student.  The report is usually due two days after the completion of the lab in class.  The reports will be graded by the instructor and returned to the students.  If the student wishes to make corrections, one can turn it back in to the instructor to receive the grade of the corrected report minus 5 percentage points.  If the report is turned in late, 5 percentage points will be taken from the grade of the report each day that it is late.  At the end of the semester, the report grades are averaged and will count as much as two quizzes.
Quizzes are given after the completion of a unit or a part of that unit.  A quiz will be given on an average of about one every two weeks.  Quizzes will be based on the homework assigned and/or the material presented in class.  Students have the chance to take over a quiz provided that all of the homework for that unit has been completed before the quiz is taken.  A "redo" assignment is given before the student can take over a quiz.  The grade reported will be the grade of the last quiz taken minus five perentage points.
A final semester exam is given at the end of the semester.  This exam will be cumulative of what was taught that semester.  The final is usually worth 10% of the semester grade.
    Grading is as follows:
    100-92% A
     91-90%  A-
     88-89%  B+
     87-82%  B
     81-80%  B-
     79-78%  C+
     77-72%  C
     71-70%  C-
     69-68%  D+
     67-62%  D
     61-60%  D-
     59-0%    F

Policies
Students who are absent are expected to make up work.  One should ask the instructor for assignments that were given during the absence.  If one misses a quiz an appropriate time will be found for the student to take the quiz.
Students whose behavior in the laboratory is inappropriate will be asked to leave and will be sent to the office on a disciplinary referral.  The student will also receive a zero grade on the lab report.  One must be concerned and considerate of the safety of one's self and others in the lab.
Students who are found cheating on a quiz or exam will receive a zero grade.  The student will be sent to the office on a disciplinary referral and a parent and/or guardian will be contacted.

Supplies
Students should arrive to class with a notebook and a writing utensil each day.  The instructor will notify the students beforehand when a book, calculator, or goggles will be needed.  Students are responsible for bringing goggles to class when a laboratory experiment is to be performed.  Goggles are required during experiments.  If a student chooses not to bring goggles to class, they may be "rented" for a nominal fee.
