HOMEWORK/GRADING
The student will be evaluated based on performance on homework, laboratory reports, tests, a written paper, and the final exam. Homework assignments are primarily worksheets with problems involving chemistry at a college level. These assignments are usually given in two week intervals. Completion of homework assignments will count as much as two lab reports at the end of the semester.
Lab reports are graded by the instructor and are based primarily on the results obtained for the experiment. Typically, 8-9 lab reports should be completed by the end of the semester.
Tests are taken throughout the semester. The student will be tested primarily on the homework assignments. Usually. there will be 3-4 tests each semester. The tests will count as much as one lab report when tabulating the semester grade.
A paper focusing on a science/technology/society issue will be assigned during the second semester. This paper will count as much as two lab reports when evaluating the semester grade.
A lab final will be given at the end of the semester. Students will use many skills learned during the semester in order to successfully complete the experiment. The final will count as much as two lab reports when assessing the semester grade.

POLICIES
Students who are absent are expected to make up work. One should ask the instructor for assignments that were given during the absence. If one misses a test, an appropriate time will be found for the student to take the test.
Students whose behavior in the laboratory is inappropriate will be asked to leave the class and be sent to the office on a disciplinary referral. The student will receive a zero grade on the lab report. One must be concerned and considerate of the safety of one's self and others in the lab.
Students who are found cheating during a lab or on a test will receive a zero grade. The student will be sent to the office on a disciplinary referral and a parent and/opr a guardian will be contacted.
SUPPLIES
Students should be prepared to work in the lab on most days. Goggles are required during experiments. If a student chooses not to bring goggles to class, they may be "rented" at a nominal fee. The instructor will notify the class beforehand when a calculator or goggles will be needed.
