Welcome - New Students
I hope that the transition from your previous school to your high school will go smoothly.
During your Freshman year, you will be studying the Old Testament. Since there are thirty-nine books in the Old Testament, we will have a very full year of study. The New Testament and related topics will be covered over the remaining three years of high school.
Here are some things that you need to get for this class:
1. New International Version - Bible (NIV):
- You must bring your Bible to class every day.
- You will need a Bible for all four years of high school, so you may want to get one that is durable - one that is able to take stress. Check the binding to make sure that it will last and check the strength of the pages. The very thin pages may tear easily.
- Since many write notes in their Bible, thin pages have a tendency to bleed and tear when you use certain pens.
- Many editions have aids to assist you in your study, though not specifically needed for Freshman Religion, you may wish to have this type of Bible for your own personal Bible study. Here is a list of additional features to consider:
Cross references
Concordance
Study notes
Maps/Atlas
Dictionary
2. Religion Folder:
-
You may choose any type of folder or portfolio that has three rings or clips in which to secure your papers.
-
You need to bring your Religion Folder to class every day.
-
These folders vary in price and features. The portfolio-style is the least expensive and offers a variety of colors (to help distinguish between your classes). However, they tend to rip, so you may have to repair them with tape during the school year. The larger folders with rings are at times more durable and allow for greater storage. Yet, they are bulky and the rings may become misaligned.
-
Be sure to place your first and last names on the front of your folder. This helps in identifying folders that have been misplaced.
-
Your folder will contain your handouts/class notes, quizzes, and additional material. It will be important for you to be organized from the start. All handouts are labeled at the top with the unit number and title and at the bottom with the unit number and page number. This should help you stay organized.
-
Your organized folder will assist you in preparation for class, quizzes, tests, and the final exams.
3. Pens and/or Pencils:
- You will need to bring pens and/or pencils to class everyday.
- Quizzes, tests, and the final exam as well as any assignments must be completed in blue or black ink pen or pencil.
- You may use whatever suits you for your notes.
4. Student Planner:
- You will need to bring your planner to class everyday.
- You will use this planner to enter dates for upcoming quizzes, tests, projects, assignments, and final exams, so that you are able to be prepared for class.
- This planner will be supplied to you by the school.
Be sure to check this page for more updates and check the other links on the Freshman Religion Home Page.
Have fun, enjoy your first year, and learn a lot.
