Language of America III
Course Credit: 1
Open to Grades: 11, 12, 10 with permission
Prerequisites: English I, LA II
Instructor: B. Forke, C. Welter, D. Sapiro
This course is designed to help students improve their ability to use the English language; it briefly reviews and then builds on the concepts learned in both grade school and previous classes in high school. A more thorough and in-depth study of usage and the mechanics of the language and their application to writing are the emphasis of this course. A research paper, vocabulary study, and spelling work are also part of the course. A student who will be taking the ACT or SAT and does not feel confident understanding the nuances of language should consider taking this class as a junior.
Topics of study: Review of grammar and mechanics, essay writing, college research paper skills, conventions and strategies.
