 Educational Programs

I. COLLEGE PREPARATORY

This is a well-balanced course, embracing subjects of general academic and cultural value. The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction recommends that a student who plans to enroll at a college or university should minimally complete the following credits at the high school from these five academic areas:

AREA CREDITS

· English 8 (1 credit = 1 semester of work)

· Mathematics 6

· Science 6

· Social Studies 6

· Foreign Language 4

II. BUSINESS EDUCATION

The Business Education Department offers two certificate programs: Business and Accounting; however, it is not necessary for a student to enroll in or to complete one of these two programs. Any student may take any course in which they are interested for college preparation or personal use.

The sequence of course offerings is arranged as a suggestion for those students who have decided to pursue one of the certificate programs. Students not enrolled in one of the certificate programs may select any course or courses in which they are interested by noting the class level at which the course is offered.

III. TRANSITIONAL EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM

MLHS offers courses designed to meet the needs of students who are at risk for academic success (normally that means the student is three or more grade levels behind his/her current academic standing). These students may need further instruction in prerequisite skills or may have specific learning difficulties. Limiting class size, adapting assignments, and using alternative materials accomplish personalized instruction, which meets the needs of these students. Classes generally follow the same objectives as the regular classes, and are offered in a rotation, which will fulfill the graduation requirements for English, Math, Social Studies, and Science. Electives and other required courses are taken in the mainstream classrooms.

Enrollment for either the Transitional Education Program and/or Resource study hall is by application only; openings are limited. Parents are encouraged to call the Transitional Education Coordinator, Mrs. Kristy Jones, at 461-6000, ext.260 to initiate a special registration process before general registration in February.
